Team Building at Lotus: Sculptures Inspired by Nature
Posted on May 29, 2021

Here at Lotus, creativity and collaboration are central to our culture. There’s nothing we love more than gathering as a company for fun, games, and team-building activities. It is not only a great way to get to know one another, but it also helps us to think more creatively about our work.
This month, inspiration came in the form of an amazing brainstorm from Kristy Pelletier and Ellen our COO using a theme from one of Traven’s favorite artists, Andy Goldsworthy. A British sculptor, photographer, and environmentalist, Goldsworthy creates site-specific sculptures and land art in outdoor settings. Andy works with whatever comes to hand to create his installations, including twigs, leaves, stones, snow and ice, reeds, and thorns. As landscapers, nature is our biggest inspiration, and Goldsworthy’s commitment to working with the environment is something we continuously strive for. Thank you to Kristy and Ellen for this amazing idea and its super cool results!
At our most recent company meeting, we all divided into small groups with people that we don’t normally have the chance to work together. Then, we had 15 minutes to explore the yard and collect materials for our sculptures, followed by 15 minutes of construction time. If you ever want to see a group of adults transformed into excitable kids, this is the way to do it.
The results were all kinds of cool. It’s amazing what you can create in just 30 minutes! When the time was up, we had a team exhibition and discussed our quirky pieces. It was fantastic to spend time as a whole company and to work with teammates whose paths we don’t normally cross.
At next month’s company meeting, we’ll be conducting a vote for the best sculpture. A little healthy competition always gets people talking! Stay tuned for the results.
