“Conlin-Sachs Residence: Contemporary Corten Tiered Patio”
Lotus is proud to announce we have been awarded an Award of Excellence-Silver by the National Association of Landscape Professionals.
Completed in late 2018, this clean and contemporary design incorporates elements of both the modern home and the original, historic fieldstone retaining walls. The project was started by clearing and grading the backyard to prepare for a tiered patio that would not block the stunning views of the Huron River.
An engineered retaining wall was created using natural limestone with a custom pin system and geogrid to provide the engineered strength for the Corten walls, which echo the color of the cedar on the house.
The bold minimal plant palette accents the hardscaping and complements the beauty of the home. Prairie dropseed was selected for its fine texture, and light-catching ethereal seedheads in fall. Boxwoods frame the seating area & also appear in the custom made corten planters along with the house. The custom stone fire pit serves as a social space in the heart of the patio.
In the front, the expansive front entrance steps had to cross the main septic line from the house. As a result, we engineered a hidden “bridge” wall to carry the weight of the steps over the septic line to ensure there would be no pressure or subsidence on the line.
With a mix of modern hardscaping materials, this newly built home on a historic site features large scale concrete pavers bordered in Michigan natural stone, limestone walls and steps, and custom corten retaining walls so the homeowners can enjoy the view.
Each year, the National Association Landscape Professionals Awards of Excellence recognizes exceptional landscape, lawn care, and interior plantscape design projects from around the nation. This year, 110 awards were bestowed for maintenance, design/build or contracting projects.
We’re proud to create beautiful landscapes that transform outdoor living areas into SANCTUARIES that our clients can enjoy.
